Human capital is the greatest driving force behind the Groupʼs efforts to execute its management strategy of achieving “No. 1 in Each Field” and creating sustainable value. This approach is rooted in Sumitomoʼs Business Philosophy of “Business is People,” which has been passed down through more than 400 years of our history. Building on this, we set forth our aspirations for both individuals and the organization in our Global HR Management Policy, which serves as our shared global vision for human capital management.
The Groupʼs business operations are becoming increasingly diverse across regions, industries, and business models, while the external environment is undergoing rapid and discontinuous change. Against this backdrop, we are advancing human capital management to strengthen our strategy execution capabilities. To this end, we are enhancing the value of our human capital̶the knowledge, skills, and experience of our diverse talent around the world̶as well as the time and passion each individual devotes to their work. To enhance the value of our human capital, we have identified five fundamentals of human capital as targets for investment and are making ongoing investments in them. Through investing in these fundamentals, we are enhancing employee engagement and fostering a virtuous cycle in which the growth of each of our people drives the growth of the Groupʼs businesses and ultimately enhances corporate value. The resulting achievements are then returned to our people through the five fundamentals as new opportunities for growth.

| Resonance with Sumitomoʼs Business Philosophy and the Groupʼs Management Principles enables us to connect the Groupʼs aspirations with the WILL of individuals, fostering a corporate culture where we unite as one across organizational boundaries. | We will create an environment where individuals with diverse backgrounds respect one another and everyone is empowered to thrive in their own way, combining their individual strengths to drive innovation and enhance our organizational capabilities. | Leveraging synergies between opportunities provided by the Company and the self-directed growth of our people, we will enhance each individualʼs market value as professionals while strengthening our organizational capabilities. | We will provide a supportive work environment and promote health management to foster employee health and well-being, enabling everyone to sustainably perform to their full potential. | In addition to financial remuneration commensurate with roles and performance, we provide total rewards that include non-monetary benefits such as growth opportunities and a sense of fulfillment, in a fair and transparent manner, thereby encouraging our people to take on challenges and pursue growth. |
By investing in these five fundamentals, we aim to create an environment where each of our people feels, “I want to continue growing here” and “I want to take on more ambitious goals” In other words, we aim to enhance employee engagement.
